Healthy Pleasures During a Crisis

All this SIP has got me thinking in new ways.  Like you, I’m also looking for silver linings every day.

One positive during the 6 weeks while I’ve been living in limbo is that my life’s purpose has been reaffirmed.  I know I am on the right path.  I feel alignment in my energy and what I do each day.  I love teaching you new things as much as I love learning from you.

Did you know that your body has two branches of its immune system? Innate immunity and acquired (humoral) immunity.  It’s important to nurture both.

Innate immunity determines how your body reacts to viruses, bacteria, parasites and fungus.  If it’s out of balance it cannot self-regulate and becomes overstimulated.  Which is how you end up with an allergy attack for 5 days straight before you pop a full strength Claritin.

Acquired immunity makes the antibodies.  My personal goal during SIP has been to minimize my reaction to coronavirus (aka SARS CoV-2).  It was never to avoid exposure.  I want to build antibodies naturally, which only happens with exposure to the virus.

Those folks who had no symptoms or mild symptoms after exposure to coronavirus had a strong innate immunity.  Their body’s defenses are strong and knew what to do.  Their humoral immunity made antibodies like it’s suppose to.  Naturally.

Your body has an innate intelligence.  If you take care of your mind and body you will be able to feel confident in living in a germ filled world.

Another benefit of SIP is an increase in self-awareness.  This week I am keenly aware of how my eating habits have changed in the last 3 weeks.

I typically follow the 80/20 rule.  Which in my case is 90% clean and nutrient dense, 10% processed carbs, every other week (because when my teenagers aren’t living with me I eat cleaner).  SIP has got me doing 70/30.  70% clean and nutrient dense, 30% carbs, delicious and processed.

I’ve been eating my way while SIP.  Carbs are an instant pleasure that only requires my active participation. On week 4 I started eating granola.  After dinner.  On week 5 I started eating bread and chips (to go with homemade guac).  Currently at week 6, I might hit the tequila this weekend.

The only thing saving me are the organic leafy greens and veggies I eat twice a day.  Strangely the two pints of ice cream I bought in January remain untouched in the freezer.  They won’t be safe for much longer.

I eat 80/20 because I know I feel better when I eat clean.  I have less body aches.  I recover from injuries faster.  I don’t get sick.  My reaction to allergens is milder.
