When I first learned about Santa Claus I was 7.5 years old. I had only been living in the United States for 5 months.
I remember walking down the endless aisles of Toys R Us with my mom and Shen Shen, my aunt from New Jersey. I’d never seen so many toys. All stacked to the ceiling. Shen Shen told me to make a wish list. Santa would take care of the rest.
On Christmas Day there were multiple presents under the tree. One stood out in particular. The label read “To Chia Chia From Santa.” Written in black Sharpie. IN CHINESE.
Inside was my first Barbie.
At the time my mom was working 12 hour days. 7 days a week.. She made all of our meals as well as cleaned the house. For my first Christmas my mom made the effort to make a miracle come true for me.
This is my fondest Christmas memory of my mom.
You may be eager for 2020 to be over. There are still a few days left for you to be the maker of miracles. Be kind to yourself. Be open to the unexpected. Spread joy.
Merry Christmas! May you feel love and hope in your heart, my friend.
