I took two trainings yesterday from trusted and informed instructors. I had to share what I learned with you.
Coronavirus is now called SARS CoV-2. The first one being SARS CoV-1 in 2003.
The lifespan of coronavirus varies depending on the type of surface it’s in contact with. These numbers are from a source at Johns Hopkins University.
- 3 hours on fabric, porous type
- 4 hours on copper and wood
- 24 hours on cardboard
- 42 hours on metal
- 72 hours on plastic (includes cell phones, laptops)
- 3 or more hours airborne (It’s stable in cold air.)
Coronavirus does not pass through the skin. Therefore, not transferable skin to skin. It is transferable mucous membrane to mucous membrane.
This is why diarrhea, indigestion, and vomiting are also possible symptoms of infection with coronavirus. Your mouth and the entire digestive tract is made of mucous membrane.
The coronavirus has a thin layer of fat on the outside. (It’s an enveloped virus.) It is sensitive to detergent/soap for this reason. Once the thin outer fat layer is destroyed the virus dies. This is why it’s important to wash your clothes, including those cloth masks!
Here are things you can do to kill the coronavirus:
- Change your clothes and shower daily. Get those teenagers on board.
- Wash your clothes and cloth masks in warm water, especially the ones you wore while you were out doing essential business.
- If you’re using a non-cloth mask, place it in the sun for at least 2 hours. Your car dash is a perfect spot if you park in the sun.
- Open your blinds and curtains to allow sunlight in. UV light also kills coronavirus.
- Keep your house warm and dry.
- Get at least 20 minutes of sun daily, with at least arms and legs exposed. For those of you who tend to burn easily, go for early morning or late afternoon sun.
- Rinse with Listerine (65% alcohol content). Listerine is mouth sanitizer.
- Suck on zinc lozenges to make your digestive tract less welcoming to coronavirus.
Your body has two branches of its immune system. Innate immunity and humoral immunity.
By doing the above and continuing to eat clean, drink lots of water, and sleep well, you are supporting both branches. You got this!!
